Our 5-in-1 Beauty Greens formula has, you guessed it, five key ingredients that promote beauty and wellbeing. Each of these has been chosen with care, including our choice of omega-3 sources: flaxseed. Here is a rundown on why flaxseed is one of our favourite omega-3 sources to include in our Beauty Gen collagen products.
Flaxseed for general health
The official name for flaxseed is Linum usitatissimum, which means “the most useful”. And their widespread supply of nutrients backs this title. Generally speaking, flaxseed are a source of B vitamins and minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous and potassium. They’re also a great source of protein, containing about 24 g per 100 g. It is, however, their impressive omega-3 content, lignans and dietary fibre that earns them the most accolades.
The good kind of fat
Flaxseed contain about 24% Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA is an omega-3 fatty acid and one of the two essential fatty acids that you have to obtain from the food you eat, as your body doesn't produce them. Consuming ALAs has been linked to the prevention and improvement of cardiovascular disease (including reducing risk of heart attacks and strokes), certain cancers, rheumatoid arthritis and autoimmune disorders.
More about omega-3s
Perhaps the most acclaimed power of omega-3 fatty acids is their reported ability to reduce blood cholesterol levels, consequently reducing heart disease risk – the number one killer worldwide. Omega-3 sources are also renowned for their natural anti-inflammatories, which assist in fighting against inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, and help calm inflammatory skin and scalp conditions that can result in hair-loss. Omega-3 sources also nourish the skin, hair and nails – promoting healthy, glowing skin, shiny hair and strong nails.
Why we love lignans
Flaxseed are also a rich source of lignans – plant compounds that have antioxidant and oestrogen properties, both of which can help lower the risk of cancer and improve health. Flaxseed consumption has been linked to a lower risk of breast and prostate cancer, and its ability to be consumed in a powder form made it the ideal addition to our
Beauty Greens formula.
Consume flaxseed for fibre
Flaxseed contain both types of dietary fibre – soluble and insoluble. This duo provides “food” for our gut bacteria – stimulating their growth, bulking up stools and resulting in more regular bowel movements. Consuming soluble fibre helps increase the consistency of the contents of our gut and slow down our digestion rate. This in turn helps to regulate blood sugar and lower cholesterol. Insoluble fibre allows more water to bind to stools, increases bulk and results in softer stools – this helps prevent constipation and is helpful for those who have irritable bowel syndrome or diverticular disease.
One serving of Beauty Gen Collagen Beauty Greens provides 500 mg Omega-3. And so much goodness packed in each tiny seed means better overall health for you, while promoting glowing skin, shinier hair, stronger nails and healthier joints too.
